The Burt Vacation Bible School (VBS) 2006 was big success this year, as 92 children and 46 staff gathered for four days to learn about God and God’s love. The theme of the event was “Time Stone Travelers – Quest for God’s Top Ten,” and the lessons focused on the Ten Commandments. The Burt Presbyterian Church was the host church, acting in partnership with the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church, the Burt United Methodist Church, and the Fenton United Methodist Church. Classes met at the Burt Presbyterian Church and the Burt United Methodist Church.
Attendance was remarkably steady, with 86 children on Monday, 88 on Tuesday, 86 on Wednesday, and 86 on Thursday. The mission project raised $551.39 for a mission for children and youth in a Native American village in Alaska. 181 people attended the closing ceremonies on Thursday evening, featuring the singing of the VBS children.
Directors for the VBS were Mary Behrends, Dawn, Chipman, and Marcia Miller. Evelyn Mawdsley was the Music Director, Mary Behrens was the songleader, and Diane Wilson developed mission movies and led songs in the Native American language of Tlingit. Mablenn Lovsatd was the treasurer. Sue Chihak was the librarian. The Reverend Glenn Wilson, Pastor Judy Depew, Pastor Judy Junkermeier, and Pastor Robin Thomas provided daily devotions and acted as chaplains.
Site Leaders included Marlene Stenzel, Len Stenzel, Renee Struekcer, Melanie Person, Londa Geesman, Ruth Isebrand, Dawn Chipman, Sara Chipman, Brooke Simpson, Karen Larsen, Krista Person, Jackie Zwinfel, and Ashley Miller.
Guides included Deb Miller, Peggy Preston, Mandi Sherbon, Meagan Parsons, Linda Zwiefel, Alysha Person, Rochelle Scott, Linda Jensen, Mitchell Habeger, Shirley Karels, Dale Person, Mike Scott, Larry Bunkofske. Instructors included Jolynn Behrends, Jessie Hayes, Kim Faber, Becky Hurlburt, Amber Brace, Tracey Haase, Ginger Marlow, and Deanna Brace.
The singing was wonderful each day and many children expressed a commitment to follow Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The directors wish to thank all who helped with the VBS, and to especially thank the parents and grandparents for sending their children to be taught and cared for by the VBS staff.
